Travel to Lake Garda/Malcesine from Susegana (Treviso Province)

Travel question. My family and I will be traveling from Susegana to Malcesine/Lake Garda. In all of my research and previous questions, the solution I have come up with is taking the 3 local buses and a train. I realize this seems long and ineffecient, but we are NOT comfortable with renting a car, despite everyone saying this is best. We know. So here's the plan I found:

From Susegana/Caloi take the 120 Treviso Autostazione bus to Porta Fra' Giocondo. Next, taking the 101 to Padova Autostazione. Next, take the Frecca 9728 train to Verona Peschiera de Garda, then take the local Lake Garda bus 483 up to Malcesine.

This is not optimal, obviously due to the 5 hours it will take, but it is, what it is. I would like to purchase train tickets ahead of time, as I know it's more cost-effective. My question is: Can I count on the buses to Padova being on time per the schedule? Is it a well-oiled machine? I don't want to pre-buy the tickets if there is a risk that the bus can run late and I will miss the train. Would love thoughts. Thank you in advance.

I don't know how you can manage to be in Susegana without a car.
At any rate, I would take the train from Susegana to Venezia Mestre (50 min)
Then from Venezia Mestre I would take a Frecciarossa train to Peshiera (75 min)
Then from Peschiera station I would take the bus 483 to Malcesine (72 min)
Less than 4 hours and you are done (by car it would be almost 3 hours).

Forget about buying in advance unless you are really firm on the dates and times. The only savings is on the Frecciarossa train (high speed) from Venice Mestre to Peschiera. Full price is 28€ on that segment of the trip, at most you can save 12€. Not really a big deal, considering that if you miss the train or change your plans, you lose it all. There are no discounts on the Regional train segment from Susegana to Venice, or on the bus from Peschiera to Malcesine.

Thank you. It's very strange that Google Maps didn't give this as an option. This is much better for us as it's more straight forward. Do you agree that it would be best to get train tickets ahead of time? We are traveling in mid June.
A car is not an option. We are attending a wedding and will be using local transportation.

No. I wouldn't buy train tickets in advance and keep my options as flexible as possible.
The discounts are puny as the segment on the high speed train is short. At most you save 12 euro per person and seats never sell out.
Buy the tickets when you are there, using the Trenitalia App or at the station (there should be an automatic kiosk or even a manned ticket office at the Susegana station). If saving 12 euro per person is crucial for you, buy only that Frecciarossa train portion, but remember that once you buy it, you must take it. No changes or refunds later. The entire trip, including the bus, is probably 40 euro.

Thank you. This is good information. In the past when I have been to Italy, we took high speed trains to far distances, so I feel like we really saved by buying ahead of time, as a family of 4. I'm also a planner and like to have a schedule, less to think about in the moment. Maybe it's not as important, or a value with shorter trips like this one. I appreciate your input.

hey hey kath27_99
totally agree with roberto about being in susegana without a car. very rural area and home of prosecco road and vineyards.
we did a private taxi tour of prosecco wineries/tasting and small towns/villages with oriana. she was fabulous to deal with and does more than tours, speaks great english, great on contacts. ask about taking a taxi and cost with her expertee.
she is born, raised, and lives in the area. email her or download whatsapp that many italians use. ask about taking you from susegana to train station (venezia santa lucia or mestre) what is better for a train to pescheira then to malcesine. (orianancc.it)
we stayed in bardolino several years ago for annual wine festival late september. loved it, gorgeous lake & mountain views but we were lower lake. tour bus ride to upper lake will take time and be a very long day for you & the gang.
