Hello,
I am trying to assess whether or not to take the Village Italy 14 Day Tour next Apr, 2026. I had total hip replacement the first of Sep 2025 and am doing really well. I will be 68 next month in Aug and I am in good health otherwise.
I was waiting till I had taken a flight to decide, my adults boys and I traveled by air to see our beloved St Louis Cardinals play in Phoenix. It was a relatively short flight of almost 3 hours but I had no issues, also we stayed downtown in Phoenix and walked everywhere, included to the stadium. I managed to keep up with my 2 boys who are 40 something with standard downtown city streets and some stairs.
I walk everyday for a mile to mile and a half at home, take care of a large yard, climb on an off a tractor most days, and can do most everything I need to as a retired man on a large property. Also, stairs are not a problem for me.
My question is whether the stairs and/or hills of Village Italy and with much of it on cobblestones with be an issue. I would like to find someone in similar situation as mine, who has have taken this tour and can let me know if they had any issues. I called the help line at Rick Steves and the fellow told me of a couple days specifically that I would probably want to opt-out of, but that overall he supposed I could handle it.
Last thing, we took the RS 14 day tour of England 6 or 7 years ago so I know how the tours work.
Please let me know your experiences and I will appreciate it!
Thanks,
Ben Ferguson
