Travel to hotel from airport

We will be arriving in Rome on June 10 at 9.20am and will be staying the the Sheraton in Rome. It shows that it is a 16 min drive. Rick Steve's mentioned to get a taxi is fixed for 45 Euros to downtown Rome. Is this the best way to get to the Sheraton? I dont even know if the location is in downtown when I look at Google maps:

When I went to Rome by WizzAir, I booked a pickup service from WizzAir that transports you to the hotel. It costs around 29euros if I'm not wrong. But the service was absolutely horrible, it was a nightmare. I waited at the pickup point for 3 full hours and no one came to pick me up. I had to go around borrowing people's phones and asking people to help me make the call as I cannot understand Italian. At last they showed me to this stand at the Fiumicino airport where I shared a van with some other people to go to my hotel. But when I was at the airport, I realised that there are a lot of drivers from hotels waiting to pick up their clients from the airport. Since Sheraton is a big hotel, you should try checking out the prices and the availability of such services with Sheraton.

The Sheraton in Rome is quite a way out from the centre and it is not in the fixed taxi rate zone. It is between the airport and centre, just off the A91. Just catch an official cab and make sure the meter is running.

Is there any reason you are staying there and not in a better located hotel?

I would agree: this hotel is located a long way from the historic center so it's not conveniently located to much but the airport. I might assume you have points you were trying to take advantage of?

That aside, the hotel's website notes that they offer (limited) airport service so I would contact them first for best options.

I'm going to guess that the OP either got a low price for that hotel or is required to stay there for business reasons (convention?). Putting my money on the first one.

All of you are right. Our 5 day stay in Rome is free thanks to hotel points that my husband has. We had to stick to the starwood chain of hotels and Sheraton is what we got. Seems like its 30 mins to get downtown via metro. I guess we will not be able to rest much at the hotel and once we are out the door in the morning, we will head back in the evening after dinner!

FWIW, a taxi ride to the historic center from your hotel should be about 20 euros, presuming they have a taxi queue out front.

No need to spend that on a taxi. Your nearest metro station appears to be Line B (blue) Marconi, and you can get to the center on a 1.5 euro BIT ticket apiece. As you'll be making this trip to the center and back every day, you might want to consider passes which are available in 24 hour (€ 7:00), 48 hour (€ 12,50) or 72 hour (€18,00) values. These only need to be validated the first time you use them, and will eliminate having to buy individual tickets every time you want to use public transport within those time periods.
