Travel to/from Ischia

I would wait. I read that sometimes the ferry is delayed because of weathdr.

We went to Ischia last May and bought our tickets to and from the island the day we were taking the ferry. We bought our train tickets to Rome a few weeks ahead of time as we stopped at the Palace at Caserta on the way (highly recommend) and had specific tickets we wanted to get for the train.

Hi, Giangilberto from Milan, so, there are two important points to consider regarding Italy: ferry and train tickets work a bit differently. Let me explain it is better to buy ferry tickets on the spot. As other users have suggested, there is a risk of rough seas and strong Libeccio winds, especially in October, this can cause significant ferry delays. Usually, fast services using smaller boats get cancelled, while slower services using larger and therefore more stable vessels continue to run, so there is no point in booking in advance.
As for trains, there are two options here as well. If you are taking high speed trains like Frecciarossa or Italo, it is much better to buy tickets as early as possible, prices rise as the departure date approaches, and there is also the risk of tickets selling out. Regional trains, on the other hand, the price doesn't change whether you buy it a month ahead or five minutes before, with a digital regional ticket, you can change the departure time an unlimited number of times on the day of travel, provided you do so before the scheduled departure.

The single best piece of advice is to leave a generous buffer between your ferry arrival and your train departure at least a couple of hours to avoid any unpleasant mishaps. You also need to factor in the journey between the arrival pier and Napoli Centrale Station, when you have luggage, that is not a detail to be overlooked. Also, keep an eye out for transport strikes, as they can happen at any time, if you have a specific date in mind, I can check for any strikes announced closer to your departure.
