There are six of us who will be staying one night in Florence. We'd like to be near the train station. Does anyone know of a nice inexpensive place near the train station in Florence that could accommodate six people?

Try Il Bargellino, which is in Rick's guidebook. There have been people on one-night stays each time I've been there.

I'm not a fan of the area around the train station. It's not what you want to see while visiting Florence. The Duomo is a very short taxi ride away (5 minutes) and so I recommend staying in that area. I like to stay here:

We stayed at Hotel Enza which is a 4 block walk from the RR station.Nice place,good breakfast and friendly management.In Steves book.
