That would be nice, wouldn't it? Maybe even a train that makes no changes and no stops except for where I need to get off.
Unfortunately no such luck. There isn't even a train at Florence airport. Only a taxi could take you there directly but it would be exorbitantly expensive since it's a 2 hr drive. The way to go is to take a taxi (or the Volainbus bus) from the airport to Florence Santa Maria Novella station. From there you would take a train to Pisa. In Pisa you change train and you take a train that goes to either La Spezia or Genoa. Get off in La Spezia. Once in La Spezia you would take a regional train to Genoa (one that makes lots of stops) and get off in one of the small villages at the Cinque Terre. All in all I would plan a 4 to 5 hr trip from touch down to your hotel at the Cinque Terre. The train travel alone is close to 3 hours.

Kathy, there is a bus that goes from the Florence airport to the Pisa Airport. http://www.terravision.eu/pisa_price_timetable.html. At Pisa airport, you can take the 5-minute train ride to Pisa Centrale and from there take the train to the CT. About 4 hours and 3-4 transportation changes to get there.
