Travel time to FCO from Rome

I plan to travel from Rome to FCO to catch a 10:50 AM flight to the US on either a Sunday or Thursday in mid - late Sept 2013. Any suggestions on when I should plan to leave Rome and the most reliable form of transportation? Thanks.

I presume you will have luggage and you won't be necessarily staying walking distance from the Termini station. The best way is therefore by taxi. It will cost you about 50 euro and takes approximately 30 minutes. If your flight to the US is operated by a US based carrier, you will do your check in at Terminal 5, which is not walking distance from the main terminals. Therefore tell the taxi driver to take you to terminal 5. For an out of the EU flight, you should be at the airport at least 2 hours before departure. So leave from your downtown hotel 3 hours prior to departure so that you are there at FCO about 2.5 hours prior to departure, which is more than enough.

Roberto, as usual, is spot on accurate. Listen to him.

You do have a couple of other options. Your hotel can arrange for a shared shuttle for about 18E. Will not be as direct as a taxi but still less than an hour. And of course, there is the train for 14e if you can conveniently get to Termini.
