Travel time to airport in Venice

Just wondering what the travel time to the airport is from Venice. I have a 06:40 departure. Is it possible to get a vaparetto at that hour? Thanks!

Joan, vaporettos do not go to the airport. Buses do begin departing the Piazalle Roma for the airport at around 5:00am and the trips takes about 20-25 minutes depending on the bus line you select. There are two. However, I don't think that 70 minutes is time enough to clear security although Marco Polo is not a really large airport. I'll let others advise there. Three more choices. 1) Take the water taxi. About 90E for up to 6 people. Your hotel can have the water taxi waiting for you at any hour of the morning you wish. This is what I refer to the James Bond ride. It's expensive but travelers rave about the experience. 2) Stay at a hotel at the airport. There is a Courtyard by Marriott there along with a couple of others. 3) Sleep in the airport. You need to be there before they lock the doors at night. Yes, people do this. There's even a website. www.sleepinginairports.com You really do have an early departure.

You can also take the Alilaguna shuttle boat from Venice to the airport. www.alilaguna.it You want Linea Blu, it leaves San Marco at 03:40 and arrives at the airport docks at 04:59. Current cost is 13 euro per person.

I've done both the water taxi and the alilaguna. Water taxi really was fun, but unless I was sharing the taxi fare with a few people, I'd go with alilaguna, since it gets the job done for so much less. And it arrives at the perfect time, just as things are getting moving at the airport. Depending on where you're staying, the Fondamente Nove stop might be an option. It's the 2nd to last stop before the airport, and picks up 40 minutes later than the San Marco stop, meaning you can set that early morning alarm just a little later instead of riding around on the boat. It was a few minutes more walking for us than the San Marco stop, but worth it.

Alilaguna may work. I've noticed that they now run a bit earlier. However, their stops are limited. On the Grand Canal, they only pick up at San Marco and San Zaccaria. The earliest Blu line departs San Marco at 3:40am and gets you to the airport at 5:00am. Here's the link. http://www.alilaguna.it/lineablu-eng.html
