If I need to leave Rome and get to Paris by train, how may hours or days do I have to allow?

Twelve hours minimally, maybe more. It makes a strong case for flying.

Lillian Please check www.skyscanner.com which shows flights for European discount airlines. For most travelers, the time and cost to take the train are better spent on a quick cheap flight. Just make sure you see which airport it comes into and the cost and time to get to central Paris. Orly and Charles DeGaulle are fine. Also read the FINE PRINT since there are usually severe restrictions and then big penalties. Totally no frills. Pay for seat reservations. No food. But usually very cheap. Buy early.
