I am searching for the easiest way, without private transfer, to get to Salerno from Sorrento on Wednesday, 9/27.
I thought ferry would be the easiest, but I'm only seeing one solution that day, which puts us there past 7pm. We wanted to get there closer to midday, late afternoon.
Has anyone had this trip and have any tips or insight to share?
Thank you so much!
Jenny
Circumvesuviana to Napoli Centrale 1 hr 15 min
Then fast train or regional to Salerno 50-53 min
Or
Circumvesuviana to Pompeii Scavi 30 min
Then cab to the Trenitalia station in Pompei-regional to Salerno 18 min
Thanks Christine! I was hoping to not have to backtrack at all, but it looks like that is the way to go.
What are your thoughts on ferry to Amalfi, and then ferry to Salerno?
The ferry ride from Amalfi to Salerno is great-fabulous views
I would guess Sorrento to Amalfi just as good
How long would all that take?
Where are you looking for ferry schedules?

The ferries are weather-dependent , so I'd have a back-up plan if there's a storm. Good luck!
@Christine- each ferry ride averages 30 minutes. I found the website you linked here in a previous post here when I did a search. Thank you!
Hopefully there will be as many ferries running in late September, but if not, it's good to know we have a train solution as well,
@Pat, thanks for the good luck! always appreciated!
Or for a very interesting ride you could take the local commuter bus from Sorrento to Salerno along the Amalfi coast with lots of stops and one bus change in Amalfi. Google Maps shows that and many other options. I haven't gone from Sorrento to Salerno. I did go from Salerno to Sorrento many years ago.
The entire trip takes +or-3 hours depending on departure time. The bus numbers for the day and times I tested are 5070 Sorrento--> Amalfi and 5120 Amalfi-->Salerno. On Thursday, 3 August, the 5070 seems to leave from Sorrento at about 06:30, 07:40, 09:30, 10:15, 11:30, 12:30, 13:30, 14:40, 15:10 etc. Obviously, there are many more times you can go by this local commuter bus than by ferry. That makes sense because it's the way many locals get around and go to work.
If you try this, choose to start from Sorrento and make Salerno Centro your destination. Then select Options...Bus...Fewer Transfers. The system will default to Today and say Depart at...the next departure time. The top itinerary will fit the Options you put in.
To change the date and time, click on the Depart at... box. A pop-up will appear on your screen. There you can change Today to your preferred date and put in your preferred time.
Then be patient. It appears that the system updates when you click on your chosen 5070/5120 option and it takes about a minute to do it. If you want to watch the seconds go by, scroll down to the bottom to "Departures updated Xs ago." After 60 seconds, your choices should be loaded. If you explore with different dates and/or departure times, each time you'll need to wait and watch.
@Lo- Thank you for the information! That sounds like a fun adventure, from what I hear of the bus rides on the coast! :)
