Travel Rome to Venice or Florence when all the trains are booked.

We need to get to Florence or Venice April 28, 2010 and all the trains are booked. Is there an alternative?

I don't think the trains are sold out. I don't think that Trenitalia will let you reserve more than 90 or 92 days out. You'll need to look a bit later.

There is absolutely no way for all the trains to be sold out. Trains are never sold out.

The reason you "think" that all trains are sold out on and after April 28, 2010 is that the Trenitalia website reflects ticket availability ONLY 120 DAYS OUT, and NOT BEYOND. Check the site in a couple of days, and you'll see that train reservations are indeed available at this time!!!

BTW, it is usually not possible to secure advance reservations on the Trenitalia website unless using a credit card issued by an Italian bank. You can certainly try to do so, but few have succeeded.

Nevertheless, you can almost always wait to buy the tickets as soon as you arrive in Italy.

Just buy your tickets when you get to Italy. The trains NEVER sell out so you won't have a problem. As others have said, you are trying to buy them too early. They are not on sale yet. You won't be able to buy them with a non-italian issued credit card so just buy them when you get there. Once in Italy you can buy all your tickets at the same time using your credit card. The trenitalia site has some glitch in it that won't take foreign cards.
