Travel Rome to Positano

We will be traveling from Rome to Positano. We do not want to drive (or be driven) on the roads from Sorrento to Positano. Tried that once and it was horrifying for us as we are very afraid and anxious on those roads. So…we need to get from Rome to Sorrento and then Sorrento to Positano. Apparently there is no direct train from Rome to Sorrento so we may need to book a private car…any suggestions for one that is not too expensive? Our hotel quoted 1200eu. Also any recommendations for getting from Sorrento to Positano by boat? Ferry? Any advice on which Ferry and where to get it in Sorrento? Also any info on a private boat(may be too expensive-a Google search was showing @ 12-1400eu). Any advice would be most appreciated!

No reason to go to/thru Sorrento if you are not saying there
When is trip? Will ferries be running?

Options::

Fast train from Rome to Salerno
Ferry to Positano-change in Amalfi

Fast train Rome to Naples
Local train to Sorrento change to ferry or bus to Positano yuck

There are dozens of threads addressing transportation to /from the AC.
Use the Search function- filter by type and date.

Lots of info here:

Month of year. Have you BEEN to Positano before? Is it really so good that you want to go again? Looking at Google Maps, it appears that there might be roads from Naples that don't go along the coast. Maybe more miles and more time.

Your post is confusing because you don't want to drive sketchy Campagnia roads, but immediately talk about a private driver. Do you actually mean to say that the SITA bus was scary? Or was it the traffic? Or was it the drop off of the side of the road. Do you get motion sickness?

Unless things have changed (very well could have), usually the Salerno ferry to Amalfi continues to Positano. I was just checking out the Travelmar website and it sold tickets from Salerno to Positano with no obvious changes.

But YES, why would you want to suffer getting to Sorrento and then around the peninsula to Positano when you could just take a ferry from Salerno? If your qualm is with the roads from Sorrento to Positano, and the ferries aren't running, would a driver from Salerno be better?
