Travel plan comparison

Have posted about this before, but am now considering some rearranging. Seeking opinions about pros and cons.
original plan, more or less:
To Venice, last week of Sept. 4 nights. Have been before, particular interest this time is the Homo Faber exhibit,
Ferrara, 2 nights.
Salerno, 4 nights; use ferries to visit Amalfi Coast, train to visit Paestum.
Head towards Rome, maybe stop in Ercolano 1 night to visit ruins.
5 nights Rome.
3 nights Florence (been before, want to see Accademia, Santa Croce, San Miniato al Monte, possibly Fiesole)
2 nights Lucca (been before, want to experience more thoroughly).
Leave from Pisa airport.

New plan:
Fly to Rome, mid-Sept. Immediately take train to Salerno; 4 nights
5 nights Rome.
3 nights Florence.
3 nights Ferrara - possible day trip to Ravenna
4 nights Venice.
I think an advantage of the latter plan would be an ability to appreciate Homo Faber better, because no longer jet lagged, and maybe the exhibit wouldnโ€™t be as crowded at that point.
Any thoughts? Thanks!

My only quibble is that Ravenna shouldn't be a possible, it should be a definite and it's better as an overnight. You'll need more than a day trip to see all the mosaics without rushing and there are a couple other places worth visiting. The town is charming as well.

Thanks! I did actually spend 4 nights in Ravenna previously, saw most of the mosaics (missed the ones in Classe because of logistical difficulties), and also got in a side trip to Faenza to see the ceramics museum, but I would love to see at least some of it again. And try harder to get to Classe.

It may be more of a challenge (or impossible) on Sundays, but I just took the public bus out to Classe. You just need to be sure you catch it (from near the train station, as I recall) going in the correct direction.

Yes - I did try to take that bus, but each time one showed up, Iโ€™d ask if they were going to Classe, and it was always a no. The last time, I suspected it really was going there, but that my leg was being pulled, and I got really mad and stomped off in a huff. Not my finest hour, travel-wise. Subsequently, I found out that there is train service to Classe, so if I do make it to Ravenna again, thatโ€™s what Iโ€™ll try.
