WE will be visiting the Amalfi Coast in mid September for 1 week and will be staying in Positano for the entire stay. We would like to take day trips to Sorrento, Ravello. Capri, Amalfi and Pompei. Can we take the ferry to these towns rather than taking the bus or going by car? Thank you!
Yes if u have calm seas.but Pompeii would involve some transfer as it is land based.
From Positano you can take a boat to Capri, to Amalfi, and to Sorrento.

For Pompei, you need the Circumvesuviana train from Sorrento

For Ravello you can take a bus from Amalfi. It's up the hill, so boats can't go there.
Thank you for the replies. Do we need to buy the boats ahead of time or can we buy tickets day we want to go?
Solid info above. Ferries are the way to go around there. You're not really in high season so you will just walk up to the ticket booth (located on the dock) and get a ticket as you need. If you're planning on taking the last ferry out of a place you might want to buy that when you go ashore, but I found there was little to worry about. I don't even think you can book ahead of that day.
September is still high season on the AC. I've been going for the last 13 years. There were more cruise ships than we've ever seen. Last year everything was packed. Roads, busses and ferries.
Purchase your tickets, round trip, the day before you plan on traveling. Or purchase online.
For Pompeii, ferry to Sorrento then take the Campania Express to Pompeii.
Thank you for your replies. So excited to see Amalfi Coast!
