Had planned to take the train from Nice to La Spezia on October 11 but with strike date the next day and rental cars with drop fees, need to see about other way to get to Italy from Nice. Anyone use a shared shuttle or private transport company? Any suggestions of alterative modes of travel?
I'm confused. If the strike day is the day after you need to travel, how is there a problem?
With all due respect, imagine that people will be out in force trying to get places before the strike, long lines and interrupted service. Learned that from previous travel experiences.
Hi Sally, Regardless of the strike, I still think the train is your best option. You are only on the train from Nice to Vintimille. Once you arrive in Vintimille, you take Italian trains to La Spezia. Since the strike is only in France, there will be no difference or extra 'rushiness' in Italy. Nice to Vintimille only takes about 1-1.5hrs on the TER, which runs frequently (more than once an hour). And even during a strike, the TER still runs (just less frequently) because it is what people use to commute to work. Anyway, if I were you I'd just stick to your original plan, especially since you are not even traveling on the day of the strike.
