Am trying to find fastest way to Genoa Airport from Cinque Terre (we are staying in Corniglia) to arrive by 11 am on a Sat. So I'm wondering how early does regional train in Corniglia start on Sat? Is it best to go to Levanto or Monterosso to get fast train to Genoa or do I have to go back to La Spezia?
Any help would be appreciated.
Only 3 airports in Italy have train stations in the airports. Genova is not one of them but the train station is nearby. Here's a picture of what I see on www.trenitalia.com. http://gyazo.com/e2061990a4e952d89e9d5ebd46c58169 You will need to be on one of the first three trains (preferably one of the first two) to make your plane schedule. Hopefully, there is a shuttle bus between the train station and the airport. If not, you will need a taxi for the short 1/2 mile ride.
Now the fun part. Corniglia is up on a cliff. Only three ways to come down. 1) walk. Not practicable. 2) the town mini-van. 3) the 425 switchback stairs down to the train station (which we have done without any luggage). The only real answer is the town mini-bus. Check with your hotel to see you can get transportation down to the train station that early.
I feel it is wisest to spend the night before a flight in the city you are flying from, particularly for a morning flight. In Italy, I would say it's almost mandatory to do so, since they often have transportation strikes!
I agree with Angela. Spend the night in Genoa. I'm afraid you will regret it if you don't.
Thanks so much. Does anyone know about the regional train in Corniglia--and if it is possible to get out of Corniglia on a Sat Am?
If you click on the link I provided in my above post, you will see what you are requesting. It's an early Saturday morning train schedule from Corniglia to a station nearby the Genoa airport. You haven't provided a date so I simply am showing a typical Saturday in April that shows the prices.
Just want to mention don't wait til the last minute to catch the shuttle bus in Corniglia to the train stn. Last trip, we stayed in Corniglia (our 2nd time - love it) and we were at the main square about 9am having breakfast when someone posted a sign saying the shuttle was out of order and wouldn't be running until noon because of a mechanical problem, and we had to catch a 10:30am train (and they may not run really early in the am - so you most likely would have to hoof it to the train stn anyway - look into that - actually, looks like they start about 7:30am). So at least we didn't show up 15 min before we had to go to the train stn. We had to take our bags down the stairs (at least it was down) - which was very strenuous even with carry on only (unless you have a backpack, those wheels just won't roll down all the stairs - I guess you could take the twisty road). I agree it would probably be better to stay in Genoa the night before - and wander the waterfront - it's lovely!
