My husband and I are checking out of our Villa in Lucia Saturday, May 21st and have an apartment in Arles, France for Sunday, May 22nd.
Looks like the train from Lucca goes to Milan via Florence. The train from Milan leaves at 11:05pm (23:05) night train to Arles via Dijon. 10 hrs 45min. We would do the sleeper double (6 hours) first leg. Any better ideas??
Not excited about carting our luggage all over. Can you rent a safe locker at train station?
We will have a car in Lucca but I hear you should not try to drop it off in a big city. We were planning a train to Florence on check out on Saturday morning.
I found a train from Florence Sunday am 09:00 from Milan - Nice-Avignon then Aries via bus (50 min) on the DB Bahn site but cannot find the same train via Rick Steve's link. Of course we would then stay the night in Florence on the 21st which seems more civilized.
Air flights last check were really expensive.
Or, how crazy is it to drive to Arles and find a place to stay along the way? I know there are drop off fees for the car in another country but not sure how much they are.
