Travel Logistics Help

Hello,

My husband and I will be traveling to Italy this summer and our three destinations are Venice, Cinque Terre and Sienna. We will be flying into Venice and spending three nights there. We've decided we are going to spend 3 nights in CT and 2 in Sienna but not sure which first. We fly out of Pisa at 1 pm on our last day and are trying to figure out the travel logistics and if going to CT or Siena after Venice would be easier. Our two options are:

Venice 3 nights -> Sienna 2 nights -> CT 3 nights
OR
Venice 3 night -> CT 3 nights -> Sienna 2 nights

Logistically which would make things smoother for our trip? Is there an advantage to either itinerary? Is it easier to get from CT to Pisa or Sienna to Pisa for our 1 PM flight? Any comments or advice is greatly appreciated.

It is certainly easier from the Cinque Terre to get to Pisa that AM. Using Vernazza as an example, you can get a train at 8:13 AM, change in La Spezia at 9:03 to Pisa Centrale, then take the 10:30 bus to the Airport, arriving 10:38. There's an earlier option, too, leaving Vernazza at 7:12 and arriving Pisa Airport at 8:58.

If there is a strike that day, you could have trouble no matter where you are staying, so monitor this site. Theoretically, you can get a taxi, but it will be costly and it will be necessary to arrange far in advance if there is a known strike. If a strike pops up, it will no doubt be after you have committed to a plan. In that event, consult your hotel for advice.

Getting from Siena to your Cinque Terre town-of-choice is a bit of a hassle as there are four trains necessary in less than 4 hours. If you leave Siena at 9:18, you arrive Vernazza (for example) at 13:12.

You can research all of the options at Trenitalia.com.

Venice - Siena - CT would make sense as mentioned above.

Venice you can high speed train to Florence then take a train to Siena or catch the bus across the street from the train station to Siena. The bus is about 20 min faster to arrive in Siena. Just check the departure time.

From Siena to CT you'll have 3 train changes (usually Siena - Empoli - Pisa - La Spezia)

The trip from CT to Pisa would be easier to fly out from then from Siena.
