Travel Journal Ideas

Have looked at various posts on the Forum but most are about hand-writing in notebooks. This trip is a long one and I don't want to fill my luggage with a pile of notebooks. Wondering if there are ideas for my tablet other than just creating Word documents. I read about blog possibilities on travelpod.com but it seems a bit complex. Have you used any special app that holds tons of information that I can use with my phone or tablet (both android)?

I used to keep small spiral notebook journals and then later switched to using my iPhone with an external bluetooth keyboard. I didn't have any kind of journal software, instead, I would keep my journal writing in a ongoing draft e-mail on my Yahoo e-mail account. That way, even if I lose my phone the contents are kept safe in my e-mail account. Doing it on a Word document would allow greater options for formatting and you can e-mail it to yourself as a form of backing it up.

I actually use travelpod on my ipad and I'm not the best when it comes to tech. I like very user friendly apps. I find I am pretty tired at the end of the day, so I just put down bullet points of what we did/ate/funny things/annoying things (and you can use it offline, so YAY!).

When I get home, I go on my desktop (because who wants to type on that ipad keyboard?) and spend a few weeks filling in the body of daily things we did and add the photos then. You can then share it with your friends via email or posting on facebook...

I always used to pack a small spiral notebook where I'd journal about our trips, but on my most recent trip, I used the "notes" app that came with my iPhone.
It's a great app because you can use it anywhere & it doesn't use data.
I would write the details of the day, once we were back at the hotel, (or on the train ride, or waiting for the train).
I would then send the notes to my email every couple of days (for future reference or to print them).
I found this method much more convenient than writing on a notebook.

Susan,

I always travel with a Netbook, and the method I use is to diarize each day using a Word document. It's just one document, and I add to it each day.

I also use TravelPod to Blog, using excerpts from the diary. I don't find it "complex" at all, it's very user friendly.

I also use the Travelpod app on either my cell phone or IPad and I also take a portable keyboard with me as its too difficult to do a lot of typing on the built in keypad. I really like the Travelpod app as its fairly versatile and you can export it or add photos, etc. I used to travel with a paper journal but I tend to write a lot and it became cumbersome. I'm a very fast typist so I can type much faster than I could cursive/write.

I just saw someone else's suggestion to use an app called Day One. I briefly checked it out and it looks pretty interesting. You might have a look at both Day One and Travelpod and see which suits you best.
