My husband and I are planning a short trip to northern Italy after completing a Viking cruise with an Italian Lakes add-on afterwards. We are then starting in Milan and have 5 days to travel around northern Italy. I've always wanted to see Cinque Terre and perhaps Venice, or just wander around the area around the Milan countryside. I'd love an itinerary planned for that

This is a volunteer site, so we don't plan itineraries, but we can help advise. I personally would consider Venice and CT too much time on the train, but there are so many appealing places close to both that I would chose one or the other.
Time of year can be a factor, so add that. Are you open to car rental, or do you wish to use public transit only?

Exactly how many NIGHTS do you have?
(A 5 day stay would mean 6 nights)
What time do you arrive in Milan?
