travel issues due to strikes

We are looking at going on one of Rick Steves Italy tours this summer/fall. In light of some of the current political situations occurring in Italy and Greece, do you envision there ever being a problem/interruptions in our travel itinerary due to these situations? Are the buses used for these tours susceptible to transportation strikes?

Hi Lorrie. I haven't been on RS tours, but from what i know, there would be no impact. This helpline is not manned by RS staff; you may want to use the email or phone given on the Tours /contact us page to ask RS folks directly.

Lorrie, The possibility of strikes or other labour disruptions impacting ETBD Tour Buses or Drivers is just about zero, as the Buses are contracted with private firms and are not "public transportation". Heidebloem (based in Belgium I believe) is used for many tours in the "main part" of Europe. Where you might encounter problems is with getting to the tour departure point using public transit. My experience with strikes in Italy is that these are usually announced well in advance, and usually end fairly quickly. From what I saw in Greece last year, the duration is a bit longer but they also end within a day or so. Which tour are you planning to take?

Looking to do the Village Italy tour in September. Any thoughts on this particular tour? Have never traveled on a tour before, so this will be a big change for me.
