Travel Insurance experiences

Hello fellow travelers! I have looked through past topics and am not seeing my question answered (if it's there, please forgive....) I know about "Insuremytrip" and "Squaremouth" to compare. It's not difficult to find insurance that covers what I want it to cover, but I'm wondering about which ones people have had a positive experience with in actually covering without hassle and push back? I've heard horror stories about folks paying lots for travel insurance, to ultimately have to fight for them to cover claims. Any positive experiences out there? Which ones were helpful? Thanks!

5 years ago I had an Allianz policy and when I slipped in an old castle ruin in the south of France and broke my elbow and was hospitalized for 4 nights for surgery and care, the company paid the hospital directly (about $4000 ) and then reimbursed me for my follow up care in Paris (x-ray, doctor visit, physical therapy). The latter was not a lot -- around $500 over a 5 week period, but they reimbursed it.

I now have an annual policy with Allianz and hope that if I ever should need it again they will be as good again.

Note that to cover pre-existing conditions, you need to get the trip policy within a very short period after making your first booking. And many things you may not think of as pre-existing may be affected by such conditions.

Have used TravelGuard many times and have had several claims for medical expenses incurred while out of the U.S. Upon return we filed for reimbursment and had to provide documentation of the expenses. But nothing that was an unreasonable request. Received checks within a couple of weeks of filing.

We have had a couple of claims over our years of travel overseas and TravelGuard always came through without a hassle. My luggage went missing for several days and TravelGuard reimbursed me in full for the clothes that I had to purchase. When our flight to Santorini was cancelled and we got stuck at the Athens airport, Travelguard arranged a hotel for the night, covered the taxi to and from the hotel and contacted the hotel in Santorini and settled the bill for the night we didn’t get to enjoy there. So far so good

Glad to hear about Travel Guard being fairly reliable. I was going to just book them since the RS tour suggests that insurance carrier, but have heard a couple of negative reports, so wanted to check. Thank you!
