I was wondering if anyone would be able to give me suggestions on renting a car to travel around Umbria and Tuscany? I would be leaving Rome to begin these travels but would rather avoid driving a car in the city. Any recommendations on a car rental place on the outskirts the city or should we travel by bus to the first destination and possibly rent a car there?
We rented a car from AutoEurope and picked it up at the airport when we landed. No problems avoiding Rome..the AutoStrada makes a wide loop around the city. We were in Assisi within 5 hours and stopped in Spoleto on the way.
Hi Jane. We're taking the train from Rome to Orvieto..less than an hour. There is a car rental (Hertz) right at the train station.
That is a good idea Time had. We rented at Termini station and immediately left the city (after our 7 days there) We didnt really have a rpoblem - the car rental clerk gave us good directions and the traffic was not too bad at 1000 am
Hi Jane,
We rented a car from Autoeurope and chose a place north of the city center near the ring road to pick it up since we were headed to Tuscany. When you go to their web site you can choose a pick up location, then map it. We got a taxi from our hotel to the Autoeurope place, then the staff gave us directions to the autostrada. It worked out great!
