Travel in January and February

We would like to go to Italy the second week in January...we know it won't be the warmest, but would like to hear from those that have been there during those months. We would be starting in Milan and then driving south to Parma, Bologna, Perugia, and then the eastern coast all the way to Lecce. Also would like to drive over and spend a week or so in Sicily. We are thinking about 6 weeks. I would appreciate any input anyone has on the weather, the areas, the itinery, or whatever else might strike you . Thanks

A thin set of Patagonia long underwear has taken me all over Europe in the winter, and they fit under your normal clothes. Coat, gloves, hat, buy a scarf there, sox & shoes, and your're set. It's a great time to travel -- no lines, no tourists. Also, while in Perugia, go South 7 miles to Deruta and get some fabulous ceramics--you could spend an entire day just looking at all the shops there. Be sure to go to the Upper City as well. Enjoy!
