Travel from Volterra to Rome in September

We will take a bus from Florence to Volterra in September. After our stay in Volterra we are scheduled to travel to Rome. Should we take the bus back to Florence and then train to Rome or can we connect with a train to Rome easier from Volterra? Thank you.....Mike

When I was in Volterra 3-4 years ago, there was no train station, but you could take a bus to a nearby town with a train station. (don't remember which one we went to) It may not be necessary to go all the way back to Florence to catch a train. What I do remember is the "sciopero" or strike of the bus line. Our hotel quickly found us a ride, and we had a great time talking with our driver. Good luck!

The nearest train station is a short distance away from Volterra in Saline-Pomerance. This train run will take you west to Cecina on the coast where you change trains to either a Regionale train or a EuroCity high-speed train to Rome. You can take a taxi to the train station. Here's a link to the train schedule.

The west route to Cecina looks faster and less expensive.
