Travel from Vienna to Florence

Have you checked out the website www.whichbudget.com Shows many of Europe's budget carriers between various cities. Though you may have to fly into Pisa instead of Florence, but it is worth a look if you haven't already. Only "catches" about these budget carriers: VERY limited luggage allowances, carry-on or checked, and you pretty much pay for it all; no assigned seats (no big deal, really); usually operate out of "secondary" airports for major cities; and only 1 or 2 flights daily and not always 7 days/week, so you have to coordinate carefully or adjust a schedule here or there. Even with the additional fees, these carriers are almost always cheaper than say an Alitalia or Lufthansa or "mainstream carrier" flight between cities.

Thanks for the suggestion. After much internet search last evening we found an inexpensive flight to Rome from Vienna (1.5 hrs) and now we are looking for a "bullet" train to Florence. All other flights were quite expensive and without the option of seeing countryside (night train v. flying), we just hope to cut down the cumulative traveling time. Also considering just basing in Rome for the week with a day trip to or overnight in Florence. Or perhaps give up Florence this trip and find an easy day trip. Suggestions?
