Travel from Verona to Bolzano to go to the museum there for the day

Hi everyone. I’ll be in Verona in late June on a tour (the first non R Steve’s Italy tour I’ll have taken since I’ve now taken all the ones on offer!

I am hoping to go to Bolzano to see the museum where the “ice man” resides. We were there years ago and the exhibit with Otzi was traveling so didn’t get to go that time. Anyway, has anyone done this as a day trip either by train or bus and have any insights? Greatly appreciate any assistance.

It's a great museum in a nice town, so yes, I probably would find it worthwhile to take the direct train 1.5 hours and about $25 each way from Verona Porta Nuova (main) station. Tickets may be cheaper with advance purchase. See www.trenitalia.com.

Absolutely doable, and as you know, Bolzano has a lovely historic district as well as some additional museums. You can spend a nice day there.

Bolzano can be very hot in the summer--probably no different from Verona, but Bolzano's so close to the mountains that there's a tendency to expect mountain temperatures. Don't make that mistake.

We were staying on the East side of Lake Garda and drove to Bolzano so can't offer info on the train or bus. Unfortunately the line into the museum to see Otzi was craaazy long, wrapping way around the block! Our 2 sons were kind of bummed as we did not get to see him. Nevertheless we did enjoy Bolzano.

Thanks for the information. I believe you can reserve a time online for the Museum and that’s what I am planning to do.

Special shout-out to Laura from the R Steve’s org. May I humbly suggest additional tours to both Italy and France for those of us who have done all of them by now? Kind of alumni trips? I’d sign up!
