Travel from Venice to Cortina and vice versa

We are looking to travel from Venice to Cortina in the Dolomites. We know that there are bus options but the timing doesn't really work for us. Any reason not to rent a car or any cautions in doing so?

Have an IDP, and if you rent at Piazzale Roma, do not exceed the speed limit on the bridge to the mainland, even by a little or you will be making extra contributions to finance the city. Educate yourself on ZTL's. Cortina is bound to have one. Other than that, should be fine.

I have driven that route several times and will be doing it again in September. It's not a difficult drive and the ZTLs in towns are clearly marked as long as you familiarize yourself with what the signs look like. Plenty of parking in Cortina. Just keep to the speed limits and let the Italians pass you on the mountain roads...don't even try to fight it! They will always win.
I recommend renting a GPS along with the car...extremely helpful.
