Travel from Venice Italy to Palemro

Say folks, this will be our 1st time to Sicily, and we are thinking about landing in Venice then taking a Plane to Palermo to catch RS tours on May 1st.

1)Do flights from Venice to Palermo go pretty regular?
2) Any help hunts if this is a good idea? Or would it be best to connect to Palermo as soon as we get in to Italy?

Because you spelled it "Palemro" three times, I feel compelled to point out that it's Palermo. :) Have a great trip!
