We will be disembarking from our Italian cruise in Trieste. Any recommendations on how to travel to the Venice airport from there?
You'd take a Flixbus from the Trieste Autostatzione directly to Marco Polo Airport. 2 hr. 5 minutes nonstop.
You can also take a train from Trieste to Venice Mestre station and take a bus (or taxi) from there to Marco Polo Airport. Depending on what time you disembark in Trieste and on what time the next bus departs, you might be able to get to the airport earlier by train via Mestre.
Thank you for the info. It looks like you can just walk to the autostazione from the port.
Give yourself lots of time at the airport for check-in and security. Last year I gave myself 2 1/2 hours after the Alilaguna dropped me off at the airport to check my suitcase, go through security and walk to the departure gate. What I didn’t plan for were busloads of cruisers dropped off at the airport and only one security gate open for US travelers. The line meandered half way through the airport. I made my flight by 15 minutes.
I did a day trip to Trieste/Lipica. Train from and to S Lucia was 2 1/2 hours. There was a problem on the train when the car doors did not open at Mestre, the passengers could not exit, and the train went on to S Lucia. Although it did not affect me, a group of 20 missed their connection (were able to get a train from S Lucia to Milan.) Unique but another reason to allow plenty of time to catch your flight.
The cruise line does not offer a solution?
NCL would not let us book their transfer bus because we are staying an extra day in Venice before we head home. We are staying at the Best Western at the Marco Polo airport to make things easier on the day we leave. We are going to drop our bags off at the hotel and then go into Venice for the day. I booked the Flixbus tickets so hopefully everything goes smoothly.
