Hello travelers. I am new to this site, but not new to Rick Steves' great advice...we have several books. Anyway, my wife and I, and another senior, but active couple, are taking the Bernini express from Chur to Tirano in June of 2020, and then will need to transit to our hotel in Menaggio the same day. It appears from browsing some previous advice on this site, that we may need to take a train from Tirano to Lugano, and then catch a ferry to the hotel (Grand Hotel Menaggio). is that the best approach?
Almost correct. Just replace Lugano with Varenna.
- Train from Tirano to Varenna-Esino.
- Walk from Varenna train Station to ferry dock
- Ferry from Varenna to Menaggio across the lake. The Grand Hotel is right in front of the dock.

Take the train to Varenna and ferry across to Menaggio explained by Roberto. It is a very nice trip!
I have done whT Roberto recommends. Worked out great.
Thank you Roberto, and the others that agreed!
