Travel from Tirano to Bellagio???

I am trying to figure out how to get from Tirano to Bellagio. I checked the rail sites, and Tirano does not appear to have any trains going from there to Varenna. Help!!! I had planned to travel from Tirano to Varenna and then ride the ferry to Bellagio, but I can't find a train schedule from Tirano to Varenna.

Punt Muragl sounds like a great place to spend the night. Here is a link to the Lago di Come schedule finder: http://www.navlaghi.it/eng/c_orari_1.asp I put in June 6 for a test. There are frequent ferries from Varenna to Ballagio, like 3 an hour. So you should be fine.

There is a train, but it is hard to find it. Trenitalia is upgrading their site and it does not show many of the regional trains. And bahn.de and rail.ch usually do not recognize Varenna-Esino. But you can see the schedule on rail.ch if you query Tirano to Milano Centrale. It will show trains departing Tirano at 9:10, 11:10, etc. Pick one and hit the " show intermediate stops.". You will see that these trains all stop in Varenna. It tIes about one hour twenty minutes. At Varenna you walk down to the ferry dock and catch the boat to Bellagio. Have fun, it's a beautiful place.

I should have asked, when are you going, and have you found the ferry schedules for Lago di Como? Also, I assume you are arriving in tirano on the Bernina Express. Are you spending the night somewhere, or trying to get all the way to Bellagio in the same day?

I'll be there in June, just planning in advance. I haven't checked the ferry schedule, but I will add that to my to do list. The master plan is to catch a regional train from Punt Murgal (where I'll be spending the night) to Tirano and then change trains to Varenna, then ferry to Bellagio. (I've allotted the entire day for travel). Any suggestions?

AB, You should have no problem getting a train from Tirano to Varenna, as there are usually departures about every two hours. I didn't have much success finding information on the Trenitalia website (it kept bouncing to the Freccia website). If I had to guess, I'd suspect they're using the long Easter weekend for a major overhaul of their website. The DB website also wasn't too helpful as they don't list Varenna-Esino which is the "official" destination you want. However, I did find some information on the Swiss Rail website, and that trip is only 1H:26M so you won't require a full day. What time do you plan to be at the station in Tirano? When you arrive in Varenna, be prepared to disembark promptly as the train doesn't stop for long! You can likely walk down the hill to the Ferry dock, as long as you're not travelling with gargantuan luggage. It's not a difficult walk. When you're heading downhill from the station, look for the bright yellow building (Albergo Olivedo). The Ferry dock is right in front of that. The ride to Bellagio is only aboug 20-minutes. Happy travels!
