Travel from Taormina

Would like to know if there is anywhere worth stopping for a night between Taormina and Agrigento along the coast? We have 4 days in Taormina and could do a day trip to Syracuse and then take the shorter drive to Agrigento for a 3 day stop to explore that area. Any suggestions? We then move on to Trapani area. Thanks for any help!

Modica or Ragusa would make for a great one-day stop, though it slightly increases your travel time. You can also visit the roman ruins and stay for the night in Piazza Armerina, just off the A18 highway.
