Is train the only way to get from Sorrento to Pompeii? If so, which train line and stop would we take?
We'll be in Sorrento for six days and plan to visit Pompeii on a day trip, with other destinations on other days.

The train is very easy and very inexpensive from Sorrento to Pompeii.
You want the local Circumvesuviana commuter train from Sorrento's only train station. It takes about 30-40 minutes, and you'll want to get off at Pompei Scavi Villa dei Misteri station which is right in front of the entrance to ruins.

Thousands of people do this day-trip from Sorrento every year so the station is WELL used to tourists. Just say "Pompeii" and they'll know exactly want you want. Do purchase a return ticket - as you'll need one to get back too - and do NOT forget to validate each of them before boarding the train.
