Staying in Sorrento for 3 nights and then heading to Florence. Any best ways to get from Sorrento to Florence end of August via train. I've seen options from Sorrento with multiple stops but also found ItaliaRail has direct from Naples. Would love suggestions on best way unless renting a cart from Sorrento would be better but from everything I've read seems like rail would be best.
Both Italotreno and Trenitalia have direct trains from Naples to Florence.
You have to get to Naples first- via Circumvesuviana, Campania Express or private driver (about 100 euros).
Book the Napoli Centrale to Firenze SM Novella on either ItaloTreno or Trenitalia website.
When you search do not include Sorrento- just search Naples-Florence (using correct station names)
Circumvesuviana (local commuter train) does not need advance purchase- it's just a few euros
Campania Express has a limited schedule runs on same track as Circumvesuviana, just a bit nicer.
Do a search here on this forum- there are loads of threads on the topic of how to get to/from Sorrento.
Renting a car would be the last resort- don't need it in either location, very expensive this year. Train is the way to go.

As Christine said!
Please use either of the train company websites she mentioned for the Naples> Florence route and not ItaliaRail: they are a 3rd party seller. Here are links for those companies:

And yes, renting a car would be your absolute last resort. You don't say when this trip is but high season traffic on the coast is fierce, car rental is reported to be very expensive right now, and Naples traffic is particularly insane.
She's given you options from Sorrento> to Naples, and if you don't care for those, hire a driver; would cost some 100 - 110 euros or so. Are you the only one traveling?
ItaliaRail is a reseller; all trains from Naples to Florence make 2 or 3 stops along the way.
ok thanks
yes after looking at Italiarail realized it was reseller after. Thanks for the great info. Exactly what I was looking for. The trip to florence we will pre book and the short ride from sorrento to naples we will not prebook.
To clarify
“Direct train” means no changes
There will mostly always be “stops”
