Travel from Sardinia to Venice

Trying to determine where best to start our vacation - Alghero or San Teodoro - when we want to end up in Venice? Wish to fly out September 5th, 2017 and start in Sardinia to spend about 10 days, then on to Venice for 2 days before we fly to Budapest.

We also really want to do a boat excursion to La Madalena archipelago and see that while in Sardinia - is it possible to do that if staying in San Teodoro area or would it be advised to get lodging in Olbia in order to accomplish that?

A least during high season, Volotea has a convenient direct flight between Alghero and Venice. Otherwise, Alitalia has an early-morning flight from Alghero to Rome, and connections from there to Venice, about $220 for the whole route. www.skyscanner.com

Ferries, on the other hand probably depart from Olbia to Civitavecchia, then from there it's 5-6 hours by train to Venice with one connection. www.aferry.com and similar search engines can get you started.

Thanks Laura - would beginning - to mid-September still be considered high season, or is it over by then? Sounds like flying to San Teodoro area first and spending some days, then Alghero for more time, then to Venice would be your best suggestion?

I saw one on a mid-September date, but you should check your actual preferred date. Flight booking is probably open.
