We will be travelling by train from the cinque terra to florence assuming to arrive at santa maria novella. From there we need to get to the airport to pick up a car. Are there shuttle buses or is it feasible to take a taxi from the train station to the airport?

Yes, there is the Volainbus every 20 minutes from the main bus station on Via Santa Catarina da Siena, to your right as you exit the front of S.M.N. station. Tickets are 6 EUR.
