Travel from Rome to Milan

We will be getting off of a ship in Civitavecchia and need to get up to Milan the best and easiest way. Any suggestions? How long will it take and how much will it cost?

Janet: You can research the Trenitalia trains on their website. You can see times, 1st and 2nd class fares, etc. While schedules change from time to time, for planning purposes you can get an idea by entering fake dates. We took a Frecciarossa from Roma to Milano last week and it took just under three hours. Very nice, very fast. I am not familiar with transfers from Civitavecchia to Roma Termini, however. I am sure others on this board can help with that.

It is a commuter run 3 to 4 trains an hour, 8 to 12E, and from 45 mins to 1hr. 15 depending on the train. If you have the opportunity you should buy you ticket at any other train station in Italy for the Civit... to Termini. When the ship docks, especially if more than one, it is an absolute zoo getting tickets. If you have that ticket, validate it, and get on the next train. Once we stood all the way to Rome but at least we were inside and the train was moving.

Janet, For travel from Civitavecchia to Rome, have a look at This. It's very easy to get from Civitavecchia to Milan. The trip is about 4-5 hours via Regional train to Roma Termini and then EuroStar Italia / Alta Velocita to Milan (second class fare currently listed at €93.50 PP). You can probably purchase tickets for the entire trip at the station in Civitavecchia. However, as Frank mentioned the station will probably be a "zoo", as all passengers will be trying to get out of there. It may take you a while to get tickets. I've never been through the station at Civitavecchia, but assume they'll have automated ticket Kiosks (credit probably required). Happy travels!
