We are three of us, landing in Rome. One of us has to go to Termini Station and the other two to Tiburtina to catch a bus to Sorrento. Any suggestions as to the best travel selection, Taxi, train and taxi or bus and taxi?
Assuming you have a manageable amount of luggage, this is very straightforward and no taxis are required:
- To Termini: take the Leonardo Express. This is a nonstop service between Fiumicino Airport and Roma Termini.
- To Tiburtina: take the FL1 regional train. This is not a nonstop service, but originates at Fiumicino Airport and stops at Roma Tiburtina en route to Orte (its ultimate destination).
You could all easily take the Leonardo Express to Termini, then the two of you hop on a train to Tiburtina, many leaving Termini also stop at Tiburtina.
The other option would be to split up at the airport, the one taking the Leonardo Express, the other two taking the other train from the airport the FL1 Regional train, which stops at Tiburtina (but not Termini). The regional train does have a number of stops, but at just under an hour is still the fastest.
FYI taxi is fixed rate 55 euros if you don’t want train
Assuming that you will arrive at Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO), there are various shuttle buses that go to Termini Central Station for around 7 euros. There is also the Leonardo Express train for 14 euros, which departs every 15 minutes.
From Fiumicino airport to Tiburtina you can take the regional train FL1, which departs every 20 minutes and costs 8 euros. From Termini you can take the Metro B to Tiburtina (1.50 euros).

There are also shuttle buses at Ciampino Airport (CIA), but they run very irregularly. However, there are two city bus lines, one to metro line A and the other to metro line B (1.50 euros). Both metros go to Termini. However, it is very time-consuming and therefore a cab would be the best choice in Ciampino.
Another option at Ciampino is the Airlink ticket, which can be booked with Trenitalia. You then take the Airlink bus from the airport to Ciampino station and from there the train to Termini.
