Travel from Rome Airport to Sorrento by bus in April.

We are arriving at Rome Airport at 10:30 going to Sorrento. We want to go by bus since managing our luggage on the train has been a disaster in the past. We are both eighty. We can get to Naples by bus but can't seem to find a bus from Naples to Sorrento that fits into the bus schedule. What options do we have: taxi, local bus, something else? Any suggestions would be helpful.

Hi and welcome to the forum -
To be honest, in your situation I'd opt for a private transfer service to take you from Naples to Sorrento. Trying to coordinate arrival time in Naples with a departing bus, possibly involving a long wait time, plus there's always the chance of a flight being delayed....
There are a few too many wrenches that could be thrown into the machinery, IMHO.

A driver will pick you up wherever you're arriving in Naples (if by bus, possibly Corso Arnaldo Lucci Terminal Bus Metropark near Garibaldi train station?) and deliver you directly to your hotel...or as near as vehicles are allowed access. A bus would likely drop you off near the Circumvesuviana train station, and if your accommodaiton isn't close enough to walk, you'd need to take a cab or local bus from there.

While admittedly more expensive than a bus, I think a private transfer is really the most comfortable, practical solution given your age and that managing luggage is a challenge. Here are a couple of recommendations for companies other posters have used:

Flixbus runs a single bus a day - looks like two a day in April - from the bus station by the train terminal in Naples to Sorrento in about 1:45 for about $20. If the times work for you then this seems like an option to replace the Circumvesuviana leg of the journey.

Hope that helps,
