You don’t need advance reservations, you can buy when you go.
Buying in advance offers a chance to snatch an economy or supereconomy fare, which is cheaper but is not refundable or changeable if you change your mind later and want to depart at a different time or date. Once you buy the discounted fare, the train you book is the one you must take,
