In June we are driving from Alba to Cinque Terre. The car rental companies that I have found that have offices near CT are in Rapallo. I am trying to find an easy way to go from Rapallo to Monterosso hopefully without changing trains . Are there any car rental companies with offices in CT or in a town from the north of CT that is on the train line connecting to Monterosso?
Are the towns close enough to take a taxi?
Thank you
I see there is a Europecar agency in Rapallo about 200 ft from the train station. There are direct trains all day every 1 or 2 hours (but a 4 hour gap from 10:27 to 14:26) to Monterosso. It is a 36 to 42 minute train ride. The 2nd class Regionale price is 4.70 euro, 8.50 euro on Intercity trains and 10.50 1st class.
To answer your last question, the five towns are close by train but taking a Taxi between them would be costly. Using the local trains (or boats, weather permitting) is the easiest way to travel between the towns.
I haven't checked on car rental offices in that area, but Rapallo is certainly one possibility. The greatest number of car rental agencies will likely be in Genoa. Although it's south of Monterosso, another option would be to drop your car in La Spezia, as travel by train from there to Monterosso is only about 15 minutes.
Amarano,
There may be car rental companies in Levanto, which is only 5 minutes by train from Monterosso.
We were in Rapallo some years ago, & there are direct trains (Intercity) from there to Monterosso (usually before 8:30AM- travel time 36-42 minutes)
You may check train schedules here:http://www.trenitalia.com
Hope this helps!
All rental companies have also an office in La Spezia.
Either way you don't need to change trains to get to Monterosso.
Thank you all. This was very helpful. I have had difficulty navigating the Italian train sites for connections..
Trenitalia may not show regional train schedules more than a week in advance, when they are available for purchase. (There's no need or particular benefit to buying them online.) For schedules further out, also easy to print, try the DB link at How to Look Up Train Schedules and Routes Online.
