travel from Positano to Venice?

My flight is out of Venice. I have a hotel booked for that last night close to the airport. My question is; we will be leaving Positano to travel back to Venice. Should we a) take the train (7 hours) b) fly back to venice from Naples (which of course includes traveling to Naples) 1 1/2 hours ? Thanks for any advice.

One clarification - the train is 5 hours between Naples and Venice - were you adding in the Positano to Naples time as well?

My usual thought is to take the train if it's under 6 hours, but the flights between Naples and Venice run all day and they're pretty inexpensive. EasyJet flies it about 4 times a day, for the random April date I picked.

I guess a little more info might help. How are you getting from Positano back to Naples? When you get to Venice, will you have already been to Venice before and you've seen how beautiful it is? If you've never been to Venice, I think I would fly from Naples, get there early, take the bus into Venice to wander for the day and then take it back to your hotel to sleep before your flight home.

To clarify: We fly in and out of Venice so our trip starts with 3 days/2 nights in Venice. I realize that I will have to travel to Naples by bus/train which I believe is about 2 hours. I guess by the time we do that and allow 1 hour or so to board the plane in Naples and then fly that will end up being a total of about 4 to 4 1/2 hours correct? Just not sure how much hassle each will be...

Andy, if you are thinking of flying from Naples to Venice, to get to your plane from
Positano by public transit, you would need to take the bus from Positano to Sorrento, then train to Naples, then make your way to Naples Airport, all with your baggage. There is also a bus from Sorrento direct to Naples Airport I understand, but I don't know how many per day, or how they would mesh with your schedule. How many people are you, two, or maybe more, and how much baggage will you be lugging around? You might look into a taxi or car service direct from Positano to Naples Airport. It would likely be somewhat more expensive, but much quicker and easier. Not a bad idea even if you take the train from Naples to Venice.

Elaborating on what Larry said, I faced this routing issue as I was planning the trip I am taking next week, although I am going from Venice to Positano. Having looked at my options, I decided to pay for convenience in this instance. I did opt for the 5 hour train ride from Venice to Naples. Then I booked Aldo Limos to take us from the train station to our hotel in Positano. We are paying 110 Euros for this. I had also looked at Positano Shuttle, which is a shared ride service. That would have been 70 Euros for two of us and it has some pretty bad reviews. I notice there's another shuttle now too - called Sorrento Coast Shuttle, offering the same ride for 70 Euros. I don't know anything about Sorrento Coast Shuttle, but their info is on their website.

You could also take the bus to Salerno and the train from there to Venezia.

If it were me, I would spend the last night in Naples. AM taxi to the airport 15 min.
Fly to Venice. Much less stressful.
