Travel from Poggibonsi to Florence

We want to travel in the middle of August (next month) from where we are staying near Poggibonsi to Florence. Is it possible to travel there by bus to arrive a little after 8:00 am in Florence and leave Florence at 8:45/9:00 pm to return to Poggibonsi?. It looks like the 131 bus is the one that would be the best but I can't seem to clarify if there would be buses that would work for these times (especially the evening one). The other option would be staying over in Florence but we would rather not if we can just use the bus and travel for the day. We welcome any ideas anyone might have that would help us. Thank you in advance :)

Poggibonsi has both a bus and a train to Florence so you might want to explore both options.

The train takes 1-1:30 hours depending on which train but it is direct and costs 8.4e. They basically run 2/hour but the times vary a little bit. The last train back is 21:38 so that's pretty late.

Figuring out bus schedules in Italy always seems necessarily hard to me. I guess the figure the buses are for the locals so they understand all the symbols and timing of when school is in and out etc.
Here is the 131 schedule: https://rd-sftp-data.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/autolineeToscane/IVU/OUTPUT/TIMETABLES_SUMMER/R/131.pdf

Good luck,

Bus departures from Poggibonsi at 6:41 (a), 6:51 (a), 7:01 will get you to Florence before 8am (journey is about 55 min).
(a) Not available on Sundays and Holidays.

Last bus departure from Florence bus station is at 19:50 (7:50 pm). There is another bus departing at 21:15, but from Piazza Vittorio Veneto. The train might work better if you plan to depart Florence later.

Thanks so much for your replies. We decided to stay over the night before just because it seems like it might be complicated and too much to do for the day. Thank you again - your replies helped us to decide.

We stayed outside San Gimignano last month and took the train down from Florence and then the bus to SG. Pretty smooth process. Regional busses were really nice and all were tap to pay when you got on, so no need to purchase tickets. Just tapped credit card as you got on and then when you got off. Wouldn't hesitate to use in the future.
