Travel from Pisa to Roma

Is rail the best way to get from Pisa to Roma, one way? How do you do it? David

Sure - fast and convenient. Of course, why would want a round trip? You walk up to a ticket window or ticket machine and buy a train ticket to Rome. Then find out which platform (like a gate at the airport) your train is leaving from, get on the train, and go.

David, I see 30 train runs from Pisa to Rome Termini. Some runs go to Florence and then to Rome. Other runs go directly from Pisa down the coast to Rome. Another difference is that on the coast run, there are runs on the high-speed train and runs on the Regionale Veloce class train. The Reginale train takes 1hr. longer. But, it only costs 18.15E instead of 63E for the high-speed run. You can see what I see on www.trenitalia.com

David, One other point to mention - if one segment of your journey is via Regionale trains, BE SURE to validate your ticket in the yellow machine PRIOR to boarding the train, or you may be assessed a hefty fine (which will be collected on the spot!). Use the Trenitalia website to research travel times and train specifics for the dates you'll be travelling. Note that schedules are only posted a month or two in advance, so if your travel dates are beyond that, just research a train on the same day of the week. You'll likely be departing from Pisa Centrale and arriving at Roma Termini. Many cities in Italy have more than one station, so be sure to choose the correct choices when you buy tickets. Happy travels!
