Traveling this summer from Piran in Slovenia to Kastelruth/Castelrotto in the Dolomites and wondering where we could stop, stretch our legs, have lunch and see something before hitting the road again - basically a town or small city that has some sights that can be seen in a few hours. We're already been to Venice, Verona, Padua; we've also crossed just about every pass in the Dolomites. I've thought about Vicenza or maybe Bassano del Grappa? Anything else fit that bill?
Based purely on research for a future trip, I suggest you check out these places:
Pordenone
Conegliano
Belluno
Aquileia (surrounded by major Roman ruins--UNESCO-listed)
Grado (Aquileia's seaport; medieval center)
With luck someone here has actually, you know, seen them!
Thank you! Those are some nice options!
