travel from Padua to Sorrento

Hi
We are visiting Venice, have some work in Padua by the University and then have 3 days till our flight home from Rome (we have already visited Rome in a previous trip)
We want to go see Pompeii and Naples,
We have Ricks books and plan on following Rick and his crews suggested walks and tours.

What would y'all recommend for traveling between the areas ( no car).
We were told rather than stay in Naples we should go to Sorrento and from there work our way back north to Pomeii for a tour then Naples then to Rome airport
Does that sound right?
We are traveling light, only hand luggage. Will we be able to store the hand luggage at Pompeii and Naples archeological museum?
Any recommendations?
Thanks all!!!

Either fly Venice to Naples or take the train.
Once at Naples go to Naples Garibaldi next door to Naples Centrale train station and catch the Circumvesuviana to Sorrento. Check into a hotel in Sorrento and visit Pompeii as a day trip. On the way to Rome stop in Naples lock your bag at the train station visit the Archaeological Museum.

There's nothing wrong with staying in Naples and it will make your itinerary a lot simpler. Sure, it's not as charming as Sorrento, but it has more sights (Sorrento really doesn't have "sights") and lots of restaurants. It's also cheaper than Sorrento. Staying in Naples allows you to leave your luggage at your hotel until you leave for Rome and FCO.

Chani, thanks, I would tend to agree
can you recommend a hotel or place to stay in Naples/

Good advice from Chani. The train will take about 4:40. Look for the ones that run at 53 minutes past the hour, with no changes.

Staying in the area between metro Museo and Dante near the Archeological Museum will give good transportation options. Staying in the area between Piazza Plebiscito and Castel dell Ovo
Will be prettier, with only bus and taxi options.

Use booking.com and filter for price and location.
