Hello, I am flying into Naples and I'm wondering what the quickest / easiest way to get to Positano would be. Thanks in advance. Aaron
The quickest, easiest but by far most expensive way would be private car, which your Positano hotel can arrange. Plan on 100 euro plus each way. More affordable options would be the direct bus to Sorrento (www.curreriviaggi.it for info) and SITA bus to Positano or Alibus shuttle to central train station, Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento and SITA bus to Positano. Some people like the boat from Naples to Sorrento, but it arrives a long distance from the bus station.
If you want to travel to Sorrento by boat there is a bus service from Sorrento harbour to Sorrento train/bus station. http://www.unicocampania.it/files/orari_costiera/eav_2.pdf If it was me I would splurge on a private transfer!
You've got 3 choices: 1. the Curreri shuttle bus from Naples airport to Sorrento, then the SITA bus from Sorrento to Positano; 2. the shuttle from the airport to the Naples central train station, then the Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento, then the SITA bus to Positano; 3. the shuttle from Naples airport to the Naples port (Beverello), then the Metro del Mare hydrofoil from Naples to Positano. The hydrofoil runs in high season only (thru first week of October), and it makes only 4 runs a day, 3 of which are before 10 AM.
Hey Tom, is this the same hydrofoil that services Capri from Naples? We will be traveling from Naples to Capri on September 13th and I had hoped to take the hydrofoil, but our train doesn't arrive in Naples until 1:10pm....
There is an airport bus to Sorrento train station then you could get another bus to Positano. Might be a airport bus to Positano and perhaps your hotel might advise?
Mindy: No, the ferry/hydrofoil services between Naples & Capri are not run by the same service. There are several other companies that run the Naples-Capri route, and they run all day long. For information you can go to: http://www.capri.com/en/ferry-schedule
Don't know when you're planning to go, but I have used the train from Naples to Salerno and the ferry from Salerno to Positano. Based on great advice on this site and a review of the website I plan on the following route on 20/10: Ferrovie dello Stato train to SALERNO from Naples Walk 400 yards to Concordia Dock in Salerno Cooperativa Sant'Andrea ferry boat to Positano (** http://www.coopsantandrea.com/en/servizidilinea/servizi.asp **) Happy Travels!
We have taken the ferry route on Coop St. Andrea in late Sept and late Oct before, but I would advise anyone to do what we will do which is check to see if there is a late development that shut/delayed ferry service. If that happens we'll hop a bus.
