We are finishing our two week trip in the Sorrento area. There are four of us traveling and we would like to know suggestions about where it is best to fly from. Currently, we are thinking Naples, but have no Delta connections from there, which leaves the option of traveling up to Rome. Do you think it would be worth the trouble to take the train to Rome? Anyone have the experience of flying out of Naples? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks in advance for your advice.
If the only way you can get your Delta connection is in Rome, what choice is there to be made?
Naples doesn't have a lot of good options, it's mostly low cost European carriers. If you fly Delta (Sky Team) you could fly Alitalia to Rome early morning instead of taking the train. The Alitalia flight is a Delta codeshare and departs from NAP at 7:15am currently. Flying to Paris CDG with AirFrance is another option (Delta Code share), unfortunately it's an afternoon flight only, so it may not be suitable (they have nothing earlier). Another possibility is of course a Rome departure. In that case, if your travel plans are flexible and not yet written in stone, you could go to Sorrento first and then come back up to Rome and leave Rome for last. So for example if you are coming down from the north (Florence), instead of going to Rome first, you continue south to Sorrento (bypassing Rome). Visit Sorrento, and then back track back north to Rome, where you end your trip. That is the solution that is chosen by many tour companies.
