Travel from Munich to Bressanone Car Rental

We are planning to travel from Munich by train to Bressanone, Italy where we want to rent a car for the week to travel and hike in the Dolomites. The only car rental I can find in Bressanone is an Avis Autovermietung which looks like it is a distance from the train station. Has anyone used them and is it easy to get to the car rental from the train station? Anyone have an easier suggestion in where to rent a car in the South Tyrol area when arriving by train? Thanks for any input!

I haven't rented a car in Europe at all, much less in that area, but I would check Bolzano as well. It's a larger city (about 5 times the size of Bressanone) and might have more car-rental options, thus possibly lower rates.

The South Tyrol Archaeological Museum in Bolzano is where Otzi, the Iceman, resides. The exhibition is excellent, and I say that as an art person rather than a science person.

Both Bressanone and Bolzano have very attractive historic centers, definitely worth some wandering-around time.

If you're traveling in the summer and find the transportation schedule requires spending a night in one of those cities, or elsewhere along that rail line, book a room with air conditioning. It can get very hot down in that valley, and many lodgings do not have a/c.

Bressanone is a lovely town with good bus connections into the Dolomites villages,, but it may not be the best place to rent a car.

We rented at Bolzano from Hertz. We took a direct train (no changes) from Munich to Bolzano, then a Taxi the short distance to the airport to pick up the car. It was very easy. We had the car for a week in the Dolomites and then drove it to Venice to return it at Piazzale Roma, with no drop fee.

But if you prefer to rent at Bressanone and have found a good rate with Avis, it should be easy to take. TXi to the Autovermietung office. Just make sure the hours work for you. Some of the smaller offices (not at airports) have very limited hours for rental and/or return.

Besides Brixen/Bressanone and Bolzano/Bozen, there are also some car rental options in Bruneck/Brunico, which could work for you if you are heading towards places like the 3 Zinnen or Cortina. You need to change trains in Brixen but it is not difficult.
